18(a) Describe the mission/purpose of your proposed gTLD
|gTLD||Full Legal Name||E-mail suffix||Detail|
The mission of the .WINE TLD is to provide wine producers, businesses and aficionados a namespace on the Internet to establish meaningful and relevant identities and to promote their companies, products, services and interests, and to disseminate information relating to wine topics. The primary purpose is to foster a sense of professionalism, trust and a shared identity and cohesion among customers, businesses, organizations, and interested parties, and to create a central Internet space where users can go to find information pertaining to wine topics.
We anticipate a variety of reasons that businesses and individuals would want to acquire domain under the .WINE TLD.
Businesses may want to create a professional web presence including online stores or shopping experiences, or use blogs, wikis and file sharing sites to support their merchandising, retailing efforts and business goals, and to generally share information.
Individuals may use .WINE domains to create websites to support or announce planned businesses and begin marketing efforts, research and tests, or to establish wine related sites to share information and connect with other individuals interested in wine topics.
In 2011, in the U.S. alone, there were approximately 23,000 farms that grew grapes and 6,668 wineries, producing wine to serve a $30 billion industry (Source: http:⁄⁄ita.doc.gov⁄td⁄ocg⁄wine2011.pdf). This represents a huge industry of wine producers and related businesses, as well as the people interested in finding information about wine products and services. We anticipate capturing a small percentage of those businesses in the first three years who will quickly realize the intrinsic value of the .WINE TLD and will wish to be early adopters of this opportunity.
We anticipate that registrants to whom we sell domains will regard the registered name of their business rather seriously and will put significant effort into building the .WINE brand and their own brand within that space. Therefore, we forecast having approximately 20,000 Domains Under Management (DUMs) by the third year of operation. Our financial responses in questions 45 though 50 go into detail on our funding, cost and revenue projections.
