The goal of the .BLOG domain is to encourage the free flow of ideas and expression through the use of blogs and similar Internet-based self-publishing software. The .BLOG gTLD will and provide bloggers and blog-readers a better Internet identifier than current registration choices.
A blog (originally a shortened form of “web log”) is a website containing the writerʹs or group of writersʹ experiences, observations, and opinions regarding various topics and issues; blogs may include images, videos and links to other Web sites. To “blog” or to do “blogging” is the act of adding content to a blog.
As of the first quarter in 2010, there were an estimated 450 million active English-language blogs. (Source: http:⁄⁄www.hattrickassociates.com⁄2010⁄02⁄how_many_blogs_2011_web_content). Blogs include but not limited to art blogs, photography blogs, news blogs, law blogs, etc. There is a blog to cater to virtually any subject, activity or trade in which people are interested.
Given the large number of blogs, the .BLOG top-level domain will alleviate pressure on the over-crowded .COM namespace and allow bloggers to find good domain names at a price well below the high prices charged in the .COM secondary market.
