We are confident that the .FIT domain will encourage fitness and health education. The last 20 years has seen a steady increase in obesity rates in the United States and abroad. In a research study administered in 2010, results showed that thirty-six out of 50 states had obesity rates of at least 25%; twelve of these--Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia--had obesity rates of 30% or greater.
